American Rheinmetall has secured a $7.28-million contract to deliver 12 Mission Master SP unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) and five amphibious kits to the US Marine Corps.
Procured through the Defense Logistics Agency, the platforms will support ongoing testing, autonomous logistics, and expeditionary mobility programs under the service’s Warfighting Laboratory in Quantico, Virginia.
The contract also covers engineering support, technical documentation, operator training, and acceptance testing.
American Rheinmetall will lead the work in the US, supported by engineering and production expertise from original equipment manufacturer Rheinmetall Canada.
The company is also establishing an Advanced Land Autonomy Center of Excellence in Maine to support future domestic production and sustainment.
“This award represents a significant milestone in our long-standing partnership with the United States Marine Corps,” American Rheinmetall CEO Matt Warnick stated.
“We have worked side-by-side with Marines to mature, refine, and advance autonomous ground capabilities. The Mission Master SP captures the full breadth of those lessons learned and showcases Rheinmetall’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge, reliable, and mission-ready autonomous systems.”
The Mission Master SP
Powered by Rheinmetall’s PATH autonomy architecture, the Mission Master SP can navigate without continuous human control.
The 3-meter-long (10-foot) platform weighs 1,000 kilograms (2,205 pounds), carries payloads of up to 600 kilograms (1,323 pounds), and uses an 8×8 drive configuration to cross difficult terrain.
A battery-electric propulsion system provides silent mobility, a top land speed of 30 kilometers (19 miles) per hour, and an operational endurance of eight hours.
Equipped with an amphibious kit, the UGV can travel through water at speeds of up to 5 kilometers (3 miles) per hour, extending its reach in littoral environments.
For armed missions, the Mission Master SP can be fitted with Rheinmetall’s Fieldranger Remote Weapon Station, which carries a 7.62mm machine gun, a 20mm high-velocity cannon, or 30mm and 40mm automatic grenade launchers.
