Kopin Corporation has received multiple prototype orders for its Sentinel first-person viewer (FPV) headset from industry partners developing systems for the US military’s one-way attack drone initiative.
Sentinel provides high-definition, low-latency drone imagery while allowing controllers to maintain awareness of their immediate surroundings, supporting mobility during missions.
The orders come as customers evaluate the system as part of their offerings for the Pentagon’s Drone Dominance program, a $1-billion effort to expand domestic production of small tactical unmanned aerial systems and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers.
According to Kopin, several participants in the program are assessing the headset for its situational awareness, lightweight design, deployability, and US-based manufacturing.
The company said the program could generate demand for tens of thousands of FPV headsets if participating systems move into production.
It expects volume orders to begin in late August following customer evaluations and contract awards.
“We’re seeing tremendous momentum as multiple customers — including several competing in the Drone Dominance Program — turn to Kopin’s US-made Sentinel FPV product for next-generation drone systems,” Kopin CEO Michael Murray stated.
“These new prototype orders validate the strength of our dual-situational-awareness design and our commitment to building trusted, defense-ready solutions here in the United States.”
