Ukraine is combat testing an unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) reconfigured into a roaming turret armed with two standard assault rifles.
Announced by the country’s defense innovation cluster Brave1, the platform is equipped with Kalashnikov guns which are reportedly the most widely used rifle in Ukraine’s military forces.
The choice to integrate the armaments is meant to lower production costs and enable the platform to be deployed at scale.
Its turret features a modular design that allows it to be mounted on other wheeled or tracked UGVs, helping increase the lethality of military forces during offensive and defensive operations.
While the specific ground robot model and its manufacturer were not disclosed, Brave1 said the developer is a member of its marketplace platform.
Each UGV comes with a four-wheel chassis with airless tires, while its hull is designed to withstand fragments, bullets, and punctures during operations across challenging terrain.
Training With the Military
The Armed Forces of Ukraine is currently training several units with the UGV under a range of realistic combat conditions.
Sources say Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence has confirmed successful use against enemy ambushes involving drones.
Kyiv is now expected to expand deployment of robotic systems to different frontline units.
