The Armed Forces of Ukraine is using ground robotic systems to install barriers along the frontline, taking personnel out of hazardous work in exposed areas.

Official photos released by Ukraine’s Ground Forces show an unidentified wheeled platform fitted with a custom frame carrying large coils of wire.

The angled frame allows the drone to unspool and lay the wire as it moves forward, enabling barrier installation without requiring combat engineers to work directly in the open.

Operators from the 16th Separate Support Brigade remotely control the systems from a protected position.

“Installing barriers in an open area is always a risk for combat engineers. But today, this hard work is done by ground-based drones,” the Ground Forces of Ukraine said on social media.

Relying on Ground Robots

Ukraine has expanded its use of ground robotic systems during the war with Russia. The country’s DELTA combat system recorded 19,940 ground robot operations in July alone.

That marked a substantial increase from 7,511 operations in January, with the total rising steadily throughout the year to reach 112,000 by early September.

Ukraine deploys ground robots near the frontline to reduce personnel exposure to enemy fire.

Their missions include transporting ammunition and other tactical supplies, as well as carrying out hazardous tasks that would otherwise put troops at risk.
