Estonian unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) developer Milrem Robotics and South Korea’s Hanwha Systems have signed an agreement to explore integrating advanced payloads into tactical ground drones.
The partnership will focus on combining sensors, electronic warfare systems, and weapon technologies to expand the capabilities of unmanned platforms used for force protection and critical infrastructure security.
Under the collaboration, the companies will evaluate how Hanwha’s payload solutions can be integrated into Milrem’s proven UGV platforms, allowing the systems to support a wide range of missions and operational requirements.
Other technologies being considered for integration include directed energy solutions, jamming capabilities, and radar systems.
Toward More Capable Ground Robots
Discussing the new cooperation, Hanwha Systems senior vice president Peter Bae said the arrangement “creates new opportunities for protecting military forces and critical infrastructure.”
He added that the deal would allow both companies to “explore integrated capabilities that address evolving operational requirements.”
Milrem Robotics CEO Kuldar Väärsi echoed that sentiment, stating that combining their technologies could create “highly capable unmanned systems” that improve operational effectiveness while keeping personnel out of harm’s way.
The cooperation builds on earlier collaboration between the companies, including a joint bid to Romania’s ongoing UGV procurement program.
