German firm Quantum Systems has upgraded its proprietary Reliant unmanned aerial system (UAS), increasing payload capacity and expanding software integration for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions.
The modification incorporates a hybrid-electric power unit and raises the drone’s maximum payload capacity to 9 kilograms (20 pounds).
This allows the vertical takeoff and landing platform to carry a wider range of mission payloads, including electro-optical sensors, laser target designators, synthetic aperture radar, signals intelligence equipment, and satellite communications modules.
Reliant has also been equipped with Quantum Systems’ in-house MOSAIC UXS software ecosystem, enabling interoperability with networked air, ground, and maritime assets.
‘Truly Unique Capability’
Reliant measures 2 meters (7 feet) in length, has a wingspan of 4 meters (13 feet), a maximum takeoff weight of 45 kilograms (99 pounds), and carries NVIDIA Jetson Orin onboard AI processors.
Designed for rapid field deployment, the aircraft requires only a small launch zone, making it suitable for shipborne and austere operations. It can be assembled by a two-person crew and operated by a single controller.
The ISR drone has a data link range of 160 kilometers (99 miles), an endurance of more than 10 hours, and a service ceiling of 4,500 meters (14,764 feet).
According to Quantum Systems, the platform is built entirely with European-sourced components, reducing reliance on Chinese parts while also avoiding restrictions under US International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
The company added that NATO and partner militaries, including Germany and Ukraine, routinely operate Reliant alongside other Quantum Systems UAS platforms.
